Why Now Is The Best Time To Check Your Heating and Cooling System

Posted by on July 27, 2019

It’s summertime and checking your heating and cooling system is probably the furthest thing from your mind right now. However, before you know it the cold weather will be upon you and you may well wish you had taken the time to maintain your HVAC systems. You may not realize it, but summer can be one for the best times to get your annual heating and cooling inspection and cleaning.

First, you want to make sure that all of your systems are mechanically sound. If something needs to be repaired or replaced, you most likely will have a few months to do so, keeping your costs low. This will also save on wear and tear to the system and reduce the cost of home heating and cooling.

Now that you know why you need maintenance on the system, we can explore why it should be done during the summer months. The colder season is exponentially busier for service technicians than the middle of summer.  Not only will they be doing regular inspections and maintenance calls but they will also be dealing with emergency repair and replacement jobs. That means fewer appointments and inflated prices. You can use this to your advantage; it will be easier to get an appointment and you will often be able to obtain a better deal during the summer months.

Obviously, the summer is also a good time for routine maintenance because it gets you ahead of the game. If you wait to until you need your systems to function properly only to find out that they don’t, you may have to deal with the unwanted scenario of no heating until an engineer is available.  If you get routine maintenance performed, you can make sure that your heating and cooling stays in working order. For example, if it gets unseasonably cold in September and you did not get your heating system checked, it may be hard to get a service call scheduled. Not to mention, emergency visits tend to cost more than work that is scheduled ahead of time.  As with most things, it is better to cautious and be sure that the systems are working properly before you need them.

Additionally, things need to get checked early especially if the system needs serious repair. If the job is going to take multiple days to complete or a part needs to be ordered it will be no problem in the summer when the system is not in use. However, if you wait until you need it, and the temperatures either get low or high, this will be more than a minor inconvenience.

The cleaning of your heating and cooling systems are so important that there is no reason to wait until the last minute to do it. It makes much more sense to get it done during the summer, long before you need to use the system. Schedule your yearly maintenance early to keep your costs down, forecast any major repairs, and save yourself some anxiety.
