3 Reasons Why You Should Have Your Air Ducts Cleaned Posted by on June 30, 2019

The air ducts in your home are supposed to distribute clean air into your home, and most likely your HVAC system has new filters to ensure that the air going into your home is as fresh as possible. Over time, however, filters get dirty and need to be cleaned.

The air ducts in your home send warm and cold air through the vents and allow you to control the movement of the air through your home. The air you breathe is essential and should be considered as a top priority when considering your safety and the safety and comfort of your family.  This is why you should make a schedule to have your ducts cleaned every year.

Below you will find a few reasons that you should have your air ducts clean and how you can find out if they are an immediate problem in your home.

Reason #1: Unresponsive Dampers

The dampers in HVAC systems are similar to taps for plumbing. Dampers control the amount of air, warm or cold, that flows into each room of the house. If dust accumulates, the moving parts can be hampered to the point that they will not respond to the thermostat.

Reason #2: Pests

If you believe you have pests in your home, you should have them removed by a professional immediately. If there are pests in the house, there is a chance that they have chewed or clawed through ductwork and you will not only have to have the ducts cleaned but will have to have them repaired as well.

Reason #3: Reduced Efficiency

If your ductwork is dirty, it will minimize the efficiency of your HVAC system. Conversely, clean ductwork can improve the system and reduce the chance of clogs. This can be very important, especially if you have a fuel-fired furnace, as some of the particles from the burning fuel may escape into the ductwork.

You should also have your chimney worked on as needed.

The reason beyond the reasons: MOLD GROWTH

When it comes to clean air ducts, it isn’t just dust and visible debris that you have to concern yourself with. If there is moisture in the vents at all, you will also have to consider that there could be mold. If mold spores occur in your home, they will have to be eliminated quickly before they become a huge problem.

To check for mold growth, remove the grill on at least one of the vents. You may notice a moldy smell use a flashlight to look for signs of mold within the ductwork. If there is mold inside the duct, you must check it for leaks and water damage.

Make sure to hire a contractor that offers HVAC services and duct cleaning to save you time, effort, and money. With their help, you can get the air in your house clean and healthy in no time
